Floodways, the portion of a floodplain with moving water during a flood event, are useful tools for regulating development in a floodplain. In a regulatory floodway, FEMA allows some development in the natural floodway if the impact is deemed not significant, historically determined to be one foot.
This webinar provides background on regulatory floodways and offers examples from Pierce County, Washington and the Harris County Flood Control District in Texas to demonstrate how communities are using the depth and velocity data to develop improved floodway delineations in their communities.
