  • Be a Hero

    Summary: In "Be a Hero" Youth Emergency Preparedness Curriculum for High School (9th-12th grades), students will engage in discussions, multi-media research, surveys, and interviews to develop their own communication campaigns aimed at raising awareness and motivating others to be prepared for emergencies. Middle School (6th-8th grades), students will develop a graphic novel to show their understanding of emergency preparedness. They'll gain knowledge through research, games, simulations, discussions, debates, and other inquiry-driven activities. Upper Elementary School (3rd-5th grades), students will work individually and in teams to research emergencies that can impact communities locally and nationally, and apply creativity and literacy skills to demonstrate their understanding of emergency preparedness. Early Elementary School (1st-2nd grades), students will learn about emergencies and how to prepare for them. From fire safety to natural disasters, they will exercise their investigative, creative, and communication skills working both individually and collaboratively.

  • Earth Camp

    Summary: Earth Science concepts come alive at Earth Camp as students investigate flow paths across the watershed into creeks and rivers or into the Edwards Aquifer. Earth Camp is an award-winning water quality field science program for fifth-grade students attending Title I schools in the Austin Independent School District. Students spend four school days at outdoor sites participating in hands-on science with City educators, hydrogeologists and biologists. Students are encouraged to make informed decisions and take actions which promote stewardship of Austin’s beautiful water resources.

  • Estuaries 101 Curriculum

    Summary: The modules were developed in collaboration among eight (8) National Estuarine Research Reserves. Each module centers on research being conducted at one (or more) of these Reserves. The modules include Climate Change, Ecosystem Services, and Water Quality. Each module was designed for teachers that want to integrate hands-on interactive lessons into their classrooms. Overall the modules: 1) introduce students to the overall concept and it's underlying issues 2) provide students the opportunity to participate in hands-on relevant research and science, and 3) provide students opportunities to take part in civic-minded lessons that can be incorporated in their daily lives.

  • A Teachers Guide to Monmouth County's High Water Mark Initiative

  • Warner Robins Water Pollution Demonstration (EnviroScape)

    Summary: EnviroScape is an exciting, interactive educational tool that addresses point and non-point source water pollution. Everyone has a chance to learn (and play) from this one-of-a-kind demonstration project. The portable, three-dimensional EnviroScape uses rain (from a spray bottle) to show pollution coming from urban, rural and industrial areas. Rain carries soil (cocoa), fertilizer and pesticides (candy sprinkles), and oil (more cocoa) downhill to a lake, where the effects of the pollution become plainly visible. The watershed model then shows ways to help prevent non-point source pollution.
