In 1996, ASFPM published “ADDRESSING YOUR COMMUNITY’S FLOOD PROBLEMS: A Guide for Elected Officials.” The document was popular and has been an important guide for educating elected officials on the impacts of flooding, identification of flood risk, flood preparation, post-flood actions, and resources to assist their community. It also identified successful efforts by peer communities.

The Guide has been updated and made available as a rich, multimedia web platform for hosting and sharing content in a new and dynamic format. The three-part guide breaks down the key information needed for elected officials to fulfill their responsibility within their community. The Guide includes success stories and video-recorded interviews with elected officials from around the country.
