Summary: After several floods in the 1990s, Charlotte-Mecklenburg Storm Water Services staff realized the 1975 Flood Insurance Study did not reflect the actual risk. Staff knew that if the maps were updated using current conditions, they would become outdated again and new development would be exposed to continued flooding. The public was involved in drafting new regulations, which lead to successful implementation.
